The "Modeling and Development" Axis is positioned at the interface between agronomy, human sciences and applied statistics.

Research activities are based on issues related to bioeconomics, statistics applied to life and environmental sciences, and the socio-economic and institutional dimensions of the agricultural sector, agrarian systems and rural development, both in the North and the South.

Our laboratories :

🔬 Economics and rural development

The research activities of the "Economics and Rural Development" entity are organized around these themes :

  • agricultural policies (decision support) ;
  • food consumption (analysis of the evolution of food habits)
  • agricultural and agri-food economics (farm management, agricultural accounting, analysis of agricultural sectors, market studies, diversification, product processing and promotion)
  • rural development (thematic studies on today's rurality, strategy development for the Walloon Rural Development Plan)
  • development economics (rural entrepreneurship, rural development, agrarian dynamics, sector studies, etc.).

🔬 Statistics and modeling applied to bioegineering

In research and development, the SIMa Unit is specialized in :

  • the development of original experimental designs and sampling ;
  • chemometrics ;
  • extensions of the general linear model;
  • the adequate statistical treatment of observations and the comparison of statistical methods, taking into account the practical constraints encountered in the field of agronomy and biological engineering.
