TERRA develops its research around three main themes.

TERRA Axes recherche

  • Multi-scale functional approach, modeling and management/restoration of terrestrial socio-ecosystems and their biodiversity in a context of global change;
  • Technological and digital innovation for eco-efficient and controlled conversion of food, non-food and energy bio-resources;
  • Bioengineering and innovative approaches to plant and microbial breeding and production, including biocontrol.

These themes are supported by 4 research and teaching support units.

Agriculture is Life

Anticipating changes in agricultural systems and providing sustainable solutions for today's and tomorrow's food systems.

Environment is Life

Study the influence of environmental factors on the production and behavior of terrestrial ecosystems.

Food is Life

Enhancing the value of bioresources from raw material processing to the finished agri-food product, meeting current and future food challenges and aiming for zero organic waste.

Forest is Life

Understand how forest ecosystems function and how they react to global change.
Apply the knowledge acquired to the development of sustainable management methods for natural areas and their resources.

Aware of the societal and economic issues that lie at the heart of its areas of expertise, TERRA aims to promote interdisciplinary scientific research in bioengineering applied to agriculture, biotechnology, the environment and forestry. These cross-disciplinary fields aim to reconcile sustainable environmental management and bioproduct production through production and processing systems that meet societal expectations, while generating the innovation expected by the knowledge society and the bioeconomy.
