The University of Liège intends to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR - European Regulation 2016/679 of April 27, 2016) organizing the processing of personal data and the relevant Belgian regulations in force.

he person responsible for processing personal data is the University of Liège, whose registered office is at Place du 20-Août, 7, 4000 Liège. The University of Liège is a public institution with a dual legal personality: it acts, on the one hand, as the French Community of Belgium (of which it is a decentralized body) (0807.970.507) and, on the other hand, as a decentralized and autonomous public establishment, called "le Patrimoine de l'Université de Liège" (0325.777.171). It is duly represented by Mrs Anne-Sophie Nyssen, Rector.

Processing of personal data

Personal data must be understood, within the meaning of the RGPD, as "any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person." This data brings together all information that makes it possible to identify a natural person, "directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier, such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier, or to one or more factors specific to his or her physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity. »

The processing of such data is understood in the broadest sense. This includes "collection, recording, organization, structuring, storage, adaptation or alteration, retrieval, consultation, use, disclosure by transmission, dissemination or otherwise making available, alignment or combination, restriction, erasure or destruction."

The user's personal data collected via online forms will be processed by ULiège only to the extent necessary for the purposes indicated when the data was collected. Personal data will only be passed on to staff responsible for carrying out the purposes stated when the data was collected.

Users' personal data collected via the forms on this site will under no circumstances be processed for commercial purposes. More generally, it will not be passed on or transferred to other organizations, except with the user's express consent.

The latter cookies are optional. They are therefore subject to the user's consent. On initial connection, the user is invited to indicate his/her choice regarding these cookies. This choice is then saved for the session.

Rights of the person concerned

As provided for in the RGPD (Art. 15 to 23), every person affected by data processing may, by proving their identity, exercise a series of rights :

• obtain, free of charge, a copy of the personal data concerning him or her that is processed by ULiège and, where applicable, any available information on its purpose, origin and destination;
• obtain, free of charge, the rectification of any inaccurate personal data concerning him/her, as well as the completion of any incomplete data;
• obtain, subject to the conditions laid down in the regulations (see below) and free of charge, the deletion of personal data concerning him/her;
• obtain, subject to the conditions laid down by the regulations and free of charge, the limitation of the processing of personal data concerning them;
• to obtain, free of charge, the portability of personal data concerning him/her that he/she has provided to the University, i.e. to receive, free of charge, the data in a commonly used structured format, provided that the processing is based on consent or on a contract and that it is carried out using automated processes;
• object, subject to the conditions laid down in the regulations and free of charge, for reasons relating to his or her particular situation, to the processing of personal data concerning him or her;
• lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Authority (https://www.autoriteprotectiondonnees.be, contact@apd-gba.be).

Conditions for exercising rights

Some of these rights are subject to conditions.

Right to erasure (Article 17 of the RGPD)

A person may request the deletion of personal data concerning him or her :

• if the data are no longer necessary for the purposes for which they were collected;
• if the data subject withdraws the consent on which the processing is based and there is no other legal basis for the processing;
• if the data subject objects to the processing and there is no compelling legitimate reason for the processing, or if the data subject objects to processing for canvassing purposes;
• whether personal data has been processed unlawfully;
• if personal data must be deleted to comply with a legal obligation under EU or Belgian law;
• if the personal data has been collected as part of the provision of information society services.

Right of limitation (Article 18 of the RGPD)

A person may exercise the right to restrict the processing of personal data concerning him or her by :

• if the data subject contests the accuracy of the data, for the period of time required to enable the data controller to verify the accuracy of the personal data;
• if the processing is unlawful and the data subject objects to the erasure of the data and demands instead that their use be restricted;
• if ULiège no longer needs the personal data for the purposes of processing, but the data is still necessary for the data subject to establish, exercise or defend legal claims;
• if the data subject has objected to the processing, during verification as to whether the legitimate grounds pursued by the controller override those of the data subject.

Right to object (Article 21 of the RGPD)

The right to object may be exercised by the data subject on grounds relating to his or her particular situation, in connection with the processing of personal data concerning him or her based on consent or legitimate interest, unless ULiège demonstrates that there are compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override the interests and rights and freedoms of the data subject, or for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims.
